I Wanna be a Coffee Snob

Today’s the Day

September 24, 2008 · 3 Comments

Today is the day I start “the experiment”.  Learning to find the nuances in different coffees.  I’ve got two types to try:  Good Company’s Columbian beans and their Panamanian beans.  They are both french roast.  Now that I’m starting this experiment, I’m having doubts.  It used to be a simple cup of coffee I was taking pleasure in.  No analysis.  No worries.  Just relaxation and goodness.  Am I going to ruin my simple pleasure by becoming to picky and critical?

Anyway, I’m far from a scientific type, just gonna post my observations if I can have enough discipline to do that.  It might have to be in the evening though, ’cause I just can’t sit down to write in the morning (when I’m actually drinking the stuff).

Okay, off to brew before baby wakes up.  First up…Panamanian.

Kelly, I just checkout their web page. They have some very outstanding beans listed. For several years now I have been interested in the Terroir of coffee. Based on Good Coffee list of beans may I suggest that you compare the following Beans:

    Kilimanjaro
    Santos of Brazil

    Guatemala SHB
    Mexico (Organic)

    Peru Machu Picchu
    Gorudenbitoru (Panama)

Though I’m in the US, I will be following with interest the results of your tasting on your blog.

Hey Future Coffee Snob – you have a nack for finding these island treasures of caffiene! My coffee must be doctored w/ creams and sugars and I go thru phases. I want to scout out only fairtrade but the lazier me doesn’t always work that way. Anyway, will be fun to see what you find out about coffee and your taste buds. This line from your first post made me laugh
    –>”…grammatically incorrect, unedited crap.”

Thank you for the encouragement! We’ll see how it goes. Yesterday I didn’t even get the chance to make coffee ’cause my boy woke up and I got wrapped up with the day. Ugh. Anyway, off to a better start, ’cause now it’s actually brewed. Now to figure out how to taste.

Ed, how did you choose those coffee pairings if I may ask?
